Normal Food for Normal People

Welcome!  This website is simply a collection of recipes that have become family favorites.  I am constantly calling my mother or one of my sisters to ask for cooking advice or to get a recipe for the thousandth time.  I decided to make this site to compile all our favorites in one place and not have to keep bothering my family!

Some are old faithfuls that we've had since we were kids (my mom is THE most amazing cook/baker ever!) and some are newer recipes we've tried over the years in our ongoing attempt to be thin and healthy.  Enjoy!

MY BACKGROUND

Weight loss has been a constant struggle for me throughout my entire life.  Below you can see some before and after shots of me...the first one is of me at my friend Jade's wedding 5 years ago.  The after shot is of me now, 85 pounds lighter.  I am thrilled with my weight loss, but I am still about 15 - 20 pounds away from my goal.  I credit all of the South Beach recipes you'll find on that page for really spurring on my weight loss (that and quitting drinking completely), but the Low GI recipes and Weight Watcher recipes have all come in handy over the years as well.  They all seem to follow pretty much the same ideas anyway with varying levels of flexibility - high fiber, healthy carbs, healthy fats, and lots of veggies.

When I started South Beach, I noticed all of the recipes in Dr. Agaston's book all seemed very fancy and used a lot of ingredients that I don't keep around.  I am not a fancy eater and do not like any fancy food...I just like food to taste delicious!  I am a normal girl who likes to eat and just likes normal recipes that follow the healthy guidelines of each plan.  My boyfriend and I also like to live on a budget and put our money into savings.   We like to plan our menus for the week in order to buy only the ingredients we we need and not waste money.  These recipes reflect that.
